In Loving Memory of Dr. Subramaniam Kirupananthan (Dr. Kiru)

It is with a deep sorrow and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Dr. Subramaniam Kirupananthan (Dr. Kiru), age 83, on January 29, 2025. Dr. Kiru entered peacefully into his Eternal Home lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

Dr. Kiru was a truly amazing surgeon, known for his compassion and dedication to his patients. Over his 45-year career, he touched the lives of countless people, not just with his medical expertise but also with his kindness, empathy, and unwavering faith. His mission work in Nigeria, where he performed cataract surgeries and helped people see again, is a testament to these qualities.

After his mission work, Dr. Kiru moved to Canada and started a new chapter of his life as an optometrist. He was a healer, a teacher, and a mentor, and he continued to make a difference in the lives of those around him. He loved every moment he spent with patients and colleagues.

Dr. Kiru was born on February 26, 1941, in Sri Lanka and was a devoted Christian who lived his life in service to God and others. His faith was his guiding light, and he always believed that his medical practice was a calling to serve the Lord’s work. He found joy in using his talents to help the sick and suffering, offering both physical and spiritual healing wherever he went.

Dr. Kiru was known for his humility, integrity, and generosity. Whether in the operating room, the hospital hallway, or at church, he radiated kindness, always taking the time to listen and offer a word of encouragement. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a beloved brother. His family was his greatest treasure, and his love for them was immeasurable. He found strength and joy in his faith, his family, and his community.

Dr. Kiru was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Sinniah, and his beloved twin brother, Karu. He is survived by his loving wife, Raji; his mother-in-law, Nesammah; his two children Christine (Paulo) and Marcus (Kusala); grandsons Carson, Bennett, Jack, Theodore, and Emory. He was especially close to his sisters-in-law, Madhu and Shayamali, and brothers-in-law, Raj (Thayaliny), Rajan (Clara) and Selvin (Rohini) and his favourite nephews Jason and Jadon. He will be dearly missed by them all. He will also be sadly missed by his beloved uncle, Ratnarajah (Lohini), his other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and many friends.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Dr. Kiru with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Friday, February 7th, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a service of celebration at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at First Baptist Church, 306 Erb St. W., Waterloo, on Saturday, February 8th, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service to be held in the church at 11:00 a.m., with Rev.
