Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on February 4, 2025 at the age of 79.
Denis is survived by his sons Paul (Susan) and Alan (Ellie) and his granddaughters Claire, Sally, Jane, Kate and Reese. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Pat (nee McCambridge) Laderoute and Carolyn (nee Salmon) Fremeau (Jeff), brother-in-law Peter Sear (Kathy), nieces Jovawne (Scott), Terri, Carolyn (Blair) and nephews Mark (Vanessa), Michael, Ben (Brian) and James.
Denis was predeceased by his loving wife Andrene (nee Salmon) Laderoute, his parents Armand and Margaret (nee Hudson) Laderoute, his brother Armand “Armie”, his sister Mary (nee Laderoute) Sear and brother-in-law Raymond Fremeau.
Denis was born on June 24, 1945 in Toronto and spent his childhood summers in Temagami. He studied English Literature at what was then called Waterloo Lutheran University. During school, he worked briefly as a taxi driver in Toronto, where he once drove Louis Armstrong and then forever kept the $2 bill Louis left him as a tip.
After meeting Andrene on a double date, they taught high school in New Liskeard and Waterloo before Denis became a Chartered Accountant. After nearly 10 years at Clarkson Gordon & Co, Denis spent the rest of his career dedicated to PanoCap Canada, where his son Alan has also built his career. Denis was an avid chef for much of his life and a martini lover up until the very end. He and Andrene loved to play bridge, travel and enjoy the company of their Gourmet Club friends.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the many caring staff and medical professionals who supported Denis in recent years, including at Grand River Hospital, the Westhill Retirement Residence, St. Mary’s Hospital and others.
