Obituary of Gerhard Sowa

Gerhard Sowa Sr. also known as Gerry, passed away on February 10th, at the age of 93. Gerry was a one of a kind man who truly touched the hearts of everyone he met. 

Gerry left Germany on a boat in 1957 and arrived in the Halifax harbour. Using his quick wit and resourcefulness, he found his way to Kitchener, ON. In 1960, he started Sowa Tool & Machine out of the trunk of his car, and through dedication and determination, he quickly became well-known not only in his community, but also globally through his love for tools. His passion for life, his love for family, and spreading kindness are what he will be most remembered for. 

Gerry is survived by his wife, Marlies. His children, Audrey, Gerhard Jr. (Nadine), Jeanette, and Denise (Phil). His nephew, Gerhard (Renate). His grandchildren, Jessica (Zak), Chantale (Steven), Brittany (Justin), Michael, Kevin, Olivia, Maxine, Avery, and Mikaella. His great-grandchildren, Jack, Emma, and Lucas. 

Gerry will be forever missed, but he will live on through his family, through Sowa Tool and through his values, which so many have adopted as their own. 

A private family funeral will be held shortly. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
