Obituary of Gerald Edward Knorr
It’s with heavy but full hearts we announce the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Knorr in his 90th year, on March 10, 2025.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joanne Knorr (nee Beaupre) who is always in our hearts. Gerry is survived by their four children, Carol-Ann Knorr, Patti Holody and husband Rob, Andrea Archer and husband Pat, Chris Knorr and wife Claudia; grandchildren Krystin (husband Charlie), Joey, Andrew, Sophie; and great grandfather to Franklin & George. Gerry is also survived by his sisters-in-laws Lucille Bordman and Theresa Beaupre.
Gerry was a lifelong resident of Waterloo and took great pride in being one of few people born in Waterloo at his childhood home on Elgin Ave, son to parents Fleming & Olivia Knorr, brother to William (Bill) Knorr and predeceased by his sister Nancy Scharlach.
Gerry was a true community leader and always gave of his time and talents to many organizations including the Waterloo Regional Hydro Council, Ontario Electric League, Knights of Columbus, St Agnes RC Church Parish Council.
Never one to sit still, Gerry was the ultimate 'Mr. Fix-It' always helping anyone fixing anything from cars, motorcycles, and appliances to regular maintenance at the church.
As a life-long lover of sport, Gerry also was the first to volunteer to assist with his kids’ sports including many hockey, baseball, and gymnastics teams over the years.
Gerry was himself an excellent athlete, playing hockey and baseball in his youth and developed a passion for running later in life with his crew from the Waterloo YMCA, completing over 5 marathons with the Boston Marathon being his last at the age of 50.
Gerry was well known in the community from his work at Waterloo North Hydro where he worked for 35 years.
In his retirement, Gerry enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage on Ahmic Lake which he took great pride and enjoyed designing and building with the help of family and friends.
One of Gerry's most notable contributions to the community was as one of the founders and volunteers of the Wonders of Winter, Christmas light display in Waterloo Park which is enjoyed by so many and a great contribution to the city Gerry loved and took such pride in.
No accomplishment though was more important to Gerry than the family that he and Joanne raised and the many friendships he built along the way - truly a life well lived!
A heartfelt thanks to the St Mary’s Heart Function Clinic and 5th Floor medical staff at Grand River Hospital who provided such compassionate care in Gerry’s final days.
