Obituary of Robert Charles Haves

January 28, 1937 – March 9, 2025

Robert Charles Haves, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Kitchener, Ontario.

Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Townsend) Haves, his son Grant, and grandchildren Samuel and Amelia.  He was predeceased by his sons Gary and Wayne, and his sister Catherine (Smith).

Born on January 28, 1937, in St. Mary’s, Ontario, to Warren and Janet Haves, Robert grew up with a strong work ethic and passion for craftsmanship. In his youth, Robert was an avid baseball player and worked diligently on the family farm in Belton, Ontario, alongside his father and uncle Bill. He simultaneously honed his construction skills working with his father, laying the foundation for his future career.

On March 5, 1960, Robert married his wife, Elizabeth Townsend, in a ceremony at Turners Church in Clinton, Ontario. The couple established their first home in Thorndale, Ontario, where they welcomed three sons: Gary, Wayne, and Grant.

In 1968, seeking new opportunities, Robert and Elizabeth relocated with their three sons to Duntroon, Ontario. There, Robert applied his construction expertise to building homes and cottages throughout the Blue Mountain area. His parents, Warren and Janet soon joined them, and together Robert and Warren developed a specialty in crafting distinctive log homes that became their hallmark in the region. Robert continued this legacy of quality craftsmanship for many years.

In 1998, Robert and Elizabeth moved to Komoka to be closer to their son Gary, his wife Lynne, and their grandchildren Samuel and Amelia. In 2022, the couple relocated to Kitchener to be near their son Wayne.

Throughout his life, Robert was known for his dedication to family, exceptional workmanship, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the beautiful homes he built and the loving family he raised.

A Celebration of Robert's Life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
