Obituary of Irene Ilse Baumeister

Passed away peacefully with family by her side at Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus on March 12, 2025, at the age of 84.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter Silvia and her son Hans (Annette) and her grandson Luke.

She was married to the love of her life, Heinz Baumeister, for 33 years prior to his passing in 1992. She was also predeceased by her daughter Evelyn (1973), her parents, and nine older siblings.

Irene and Heinz immigrated to Canada with their children in 1984. Irene was an amazing cook and enjoyed being outside tending to the garden. In addition to being a wonderful Oma to her grandson, she was a wonderful Oma to her “grand-dog” as well, and being an animal lover, she was a mom to so many cats over the years – too many to name!

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Grand River Hospital, Wing 8B, as well as the angels that work at Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus, for their exceptional care and compassion towards Irene.

Irene’s family will receive visitors at the New Apostolic Church, 160 Margaret Ave., Kitchener, on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. A reception will take place in the Church’s Coffee Area after the service.

In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the New Apostolic Church Foreign Extension or to Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus (via the Grand River Hospital Foundation) may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, 519-745-8445, www.erbgood.com.
