Obituary of Richard Douglas Earl Unger
Doug was a thoughtful, caring individual whose artistic and philosophical bent showed up early in life, as did his desire to explore new frontiers.
He was married in 1990 to Sylvia, the love of his life, until cancer took her four years later. Doug received his RV mechanic certification at Conestoga College and worked in that trade for several years. Throughout his adult life, Doug experimented with painting techniques in different mediums. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, spending time outdoors, and self-study in just about any subject.
Doug died peacefully at Grand River Freeport Hospital where he was well cared for by the palliative team. The family remembers particularly the kindness of Dr. Kim.
The day before he died, Doug re-affirmed his trust in Jesus for salvation.
Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Sylvia Unger (nee Avery). He was the cherished son of Richard (deceased) and Margaret Unger; remembered with love by siblings Colleen (Mark) Dotzert and Andrew (Sandra) Unger and their families, and by his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A private gathering will be held to remember Doug.
Condolences for the family and donations to the Food Bank Waterloo Region may be sent through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at 519-745-8445 or via www.erbgood.com.
