Obituary of Marion Catherine Schwark (nee Chubb)
After a ten-year-long struggle with Alzheimer’s, Cathie passed away peacefully at Parkwood Mennonite Home on Monday, May 19, 2025, with her husband of 54 years, Sid, by her side.
Cathie will be missed by her son Trevor (Jennifer) and her grandson Thomas; and her daughter Becky (Mike) Craddock, and her grandson Evan and granddaughter Ella. She will also be missed by her sister Karen (Tom) Close, and her brother-in-law Ron (Susan) Schwark and their families.
Predeceased by her parents, Doug and Dodie Chubb of Waterloo/Bayfield, ON; her grandparents Dr. Murray and Mrs. Marion Morrison of London, ON; and her aunt Virginia Morrison of Delhi/Normandale, ON.
Cathie attended both WCI and KCI in her high school years. Education was very important to Cathie, so in her 30s as a mature student, she attended the University of Waterloo and obtained her bachelor’s in social work (BSW). She worked as a social worker in Goderich, Clinton, Stratford, and Kitchener. In 1999, while co-ordinating Marillac Place in Kitchener, Cathie won the KW Oktoberfest Women of the Year Award in the Employee category. She was very much a feminist and championed women’s rights, both personally and professionally.
She loved to read and write and enjoyed a challenging crossword puzzle. Her calm presence, conversations and Oma's apple pie will be missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank all staff of Parkwood Mennonite Home for Cathie's nurturing care.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Cathie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the Alzheimer’s Society may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, 519-745-8445, www.erbgood.com.
