Obituary of Bruno Fast

We are mourning the death of our brother, Bruno Fast. He passed away suddenly at the age of 68 due to heart failure at his residence in Chicago.

He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and emigrated to Canada as an infant, growing up in Kitchener-Waterloo. After graduating from Eastwood Collegiate and Wilfrid Laurier University, Bruno completed a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Toronto. He spent the bulk of his professional career as a librarian at Northwestern University in Evanston, Chicago from where he had recently retired.

His temperament was gentle, somewhat shy, however Bruno enjoyed engaging in conversations on topics related to history and politics. We also appreciated that Bruno was a lover of all classical music and a patron of the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Chicago Symphony. He thoroughly enjoyed many train trips across Canada and the US as well as his visits to Germany to engage in German culture and visit his relatives. Bruno maintained a close circle of friends and remained close to his immediate and extended family.

Bruno is pre-deceased by his parents, John and Anne. He is remembered and loved by his brother Ernst and nephew Raul; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Esther and nieces, Rebecca (Paul) and their children, Gideon and Madeline; as well as Karin (David); and their son, Gabriel.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Condolences for the family and donations to the House of Friendship may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, at www.erbgood.com
