Obituary of Sheila Marina Wilson
Sheila Marina Wilson (of Etobicoke and more recently Waterloo), beloved wife of William Thomas Wilson (d.2021), loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, died very peacefully under the exceptionally kind and compassionate care provided at Hospice Waterloo Region in her 91st year on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Ted (Deborah) Wilson, Kathleen Wilson-Ruffo (Chris), and Margaret (Gary) Mousseau; grandchildren Kyle, Claire, Matthew, Liam, Veronica, Daniel, Grace and Sophia, and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Blair, Theo, Maeve, Andromeda and Vera.
Sheila was an independent and feisty spirit from the start, choosing to leave her hometown of Fergus, Ontario, and head for the big city where she studied at the University of Toronto, Trinity College (‘56), and then onto The Ontario College of Education where she trained to be a Modern Languages teacher, teaching French and Italian in Etobicoke for 22 years. Mom also spent many years as a Pastoral Visitor at various hospitals in Toronto, especially Princess Margaret, where she cared for cancer patients as well as Lakeshore Lodge.
Mom and Dad were extremely devoted to each other and were blessed with 63 years very happily married. They were people of faith and were dedicated Anglicans, worshipping at All Saints, Kingsway and then at St. George’s on the Hill in Etobicoke where they lived and taught and raised their family. Mom and Dad travelled extensively in Europe and enjoyed the sandy beaches and sunshine of the Caribbean often, as well as their beloved family cottage on Belwood Lake where we enjoyed many summer afternoons visiting and reminiscing in later years.
Mom will be remembered for her strong and independent spirit, her example of faith and love of family. She would often remind us that “family is the most important thing”. She was very brave, stoic and peaceful as she declined in the past few weeks, and we shared many precious moments with her never to be forgotten.
We would like to thank the caring staff and the whole Care Team at Clair Hills Retirement Community, where Mom spent the last 11 months, for their consistent care and kindness, especially as Mom declined quickly in April and May. And massive, heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at Hospice Waterloo Region, Dr. Yew, Voyin, Kelly, Judi, Tara and Debora, and all the volunteers, who surrounded us all with warmth, exceptional care and compassion, kindness, tea, cookies and hugs, from the very first second we arrived. They treated Mom like gold, and we will always be so very grateful.
A Family Memorial Burial Service will be held at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family as well as donations to Hospice Waterloo Region would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, 519-745-8445, www.erbgood.com.
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
