Obituary of John Thomas Cooke
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the age of 97.
Survived by Dorothy, his wife of seventy-two years, their daughter, Deborah (Wehnert) and her husband Konstantin, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Viola (née Woodbeck) and his siblings, Ruby, Robert, and Dorothy (Hughes), as well as Dorothy’s husband, Edward.
John (Jack) was born in Port Arthur, Ontario and met Dorothy at business college. He subsequently worked as a ticketing agent for TransCanada Airlines (later Air Canada), using his passes to visit Dorothy in Toronto. They were married in Toronto in 1953 and lived in Ottawa for several years before relocating to Toronto. Jack took a computer training course and became a systems analyst for Air Canada, a perfect fit for his quick mind and characteristic attention to detail. After over thirty years with the company, he opted for an early retirement, then was hired back as a consultant for several years. Retirement allowed Jack and Dorothy to travel extensively (often with the same group of Air Canada retirees) as well as to refine his golf game. He always loved farmers’ markets – when he and Dorothy moved to Waterloo, the St. Jacobs Market became a favourite destination.
Special thanks to the staff of Extendicare Columbia Forest for their kindness and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and there will not be a service at this time.
