Obituary of Nora Evelyn Callary (nee Waite)
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the age of 101.
Nora is survived by her daughter Mary Patricia Weber (née Callary), grandson Luke John Weber, and many nieces and nephews in Britain.
She was predeceased by her siblings Bert, Fred, Ellen, Cyril, and Margaret, her husband Owen John Callary, son-in-law Mark Jeffery Weber, and her parents John Henry Waite and Evelyn May Williams.
Born in Portsmouth, U.K., Nora helped her widowed mother by entering the workforce at the age of 14. She served in the WRNS during WWII, meeting many interesting people and having some adventures. In 1953 she met Canadian sailor John and after a whirlwind courtship, married a month later in Portsmouth. She moved to Canada, first to the west coast, then the east coast, where daughter Mary was born in 1954. Through all the moves she made a warm and comfortable home for her family with infinite love and kindness. When John retired from the navy, they moved to Montreal, his hometown. John died in 1991. Nora moved to Guelph, to be closer to her daughter and family. Later she moved to Luther Village in Waterloo to continue her life's adventure.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Luther Village and Grand River Hospital (now WRHN – Midtown Campus) for their compassionate care over the last month.
