Obituary of William Cressman

June 4, 1947 – July 13, 2025

William “Bill” M. Cressman, age 78, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd (formerly St. Mary’s Hospital), Kitchener.

Born in Kitchener, Ontario, on June 4, 1947, Bill was the son of the late Gilbert and Anne Cressman. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary (née Ferguson); his daughters Marianne (Trent) Schwartz and Elissa Cressman; and his cherished grandsons, Will and Grant Schwartz. He will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends. He was a devoted son and son-in-law to his parents and in-laws.

Bill earned his degree from Waterloo Lutheran University and spent his entire professional career as a dedicated history teacher at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School. Bill was a longtime member of the KW Granite Curling Club and, in retirement, enjoyed playing indoor slo-pitch and gathering regularly for breakfast with his former colleagues. Known affectionately as a "putterer," Bill always had a project on the go—whether in his home workshop or tending to his yard.

Summers at the family cottage on Cameron Lake were Bill’s happiest times. He was always in motion: caring for gardens, spending time on the water, and sharing projects with his father-in-law. He also loved traveling with his family - spending many summers in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, where he was the master sandcastle builder—and enjoyed memorable trips to Disney World, Cozumel, England, and across Europe.

Bill will be remembered for his kind disposition, his love for his family and the small but important life lessons he taught every young person who passed through his home: always replace the cold pop you take from the fridge, label your masking tape with the room it belongs in, and an ice cream cone makes the best bed time snack.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Parkwood Seniors Community for their compassionate care over the past two years, and to the staff of the 7th floor at WRHN @ Queen's Blvd for their kindness in recent weeks.
