Obituary of Richard Joseph Paul Foran

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Richard Foran on July 17, 2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many during his incredible 85 years of life.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, on July 29, 1939, Richard was the son of the late Delima (Dell) LeRoux Foran. His legacy continues through his two sons, Christopher Foran (Tanya) and Frank Foran (Michelle). His memory will be cherished by his five grandchildren Kelly Foran, Amanda Thornton (Steven), Curtis Foran, Adelle Foran (London), and Brittney Foran. Richard was also a proud great-grandfather to Evelyn and Mazikeen Niro and Sylvia Thornton. He will be fondly remembered for his honesty, humbleness and resiliance by extended family and friends.

In his early years living in Sudbury, shortly after the end of the Great Depression, Richard began earning money as a paperboy to help support his family. He attended school in Preston, Ontario and enjoyed his time with Preston's Scout House Bugle Band. By 1970, he was living in the region of Waterloo, where he raised his sons Chris and Frank, along with his widowed mother, Dell and grandmother, Marie LeRoux.

Richard became a certified Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) in 1982, along with various other qualifications that helped him excel throughout his life as a mechanic. He took pride in his work at MTD, for many years as a Millwright, where he received a certificate of excellence in 1992. He enjoyed quality time with his family and grandchildren, taking them to the lake on his boat and many road-trips throughout Ontario like Boblo Island, Kingston, Fort Henry and Sudbury. Richard also had a passion for classic cars, often helping his son Frank with many restorations and attending car shows during the warmer months. He even had his own 1957 Ford Fairlane that he would proudly talk about, which was an ongoing restoration project until his passing.

In lieu of flowers, you can honour his life by spending quality time with your family and loved ones and enjoy ice-cream together, his absolute favourite. Alternatively, please consider a donation in his name to the OSPCA & Humane Society. Richard had a love for many animals over the years, including Butch, Tiger, Copper, Whisper, Jack, Sassy, Dita and Loki.

The family will receive friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. A private family interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery, where he will rest alongside his mother.
