Obituary of Elizabeth Jane Borthwick (nee Cassie)

August 9, 1951 to July 29, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Borthwick.  Liz died peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the age of 73.  She passed with the sun shining in at 12:15 pm while receiving ICU care in WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd (formerly St. Mary’s General Hospital) Kitchener. Even with the deep sadness that we feel, we are relieved that she is now free from her trials and discomforts.

She will be deeply missed by her high school sweetheart and husband of nearly 55 years, Andy.  Their relationship endured as they built a loving family, and worked hard to create an incredible life together.  Liz's care providers commented on their rare love, devotion, and advocacy for each other in their final days together!

Liz will be missed dearly by her son Ian Borthwick (Brampton) and daughter Christena and son in law Kevin Baxter (Cambridge). She is the cherished and proud Grandma to Melia and Shea Baxter. Also grieving this loss are her sisters Barbara Bowman (Jim) of Waterloo, Donna Poag (Barry) of Grimsby, and John Cassie (Nancy) of Calgary, Alberta. Many other family members including cousins, nieces and nephews, and her numerous close friends will feel this loss.

Liz is daughter of the late Dorothy and Donald Cassie.

Liz took comfort in her weekly Zoom exercise and muscle conditioning sessions with the YMCA of Three Rivers Neuro Fit program.  She was very thankful for the emotional support and encouragement provided from other program participants, who all shared their own struggles and coping strategies.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date with family and close friends.

In memory, donations to the Waterloo Regional Health Network Foundation, the YMCA of Three Rivers, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated, and may be arranged through www.erbgood.com.
