Obituary of Mary Joan Behr
Mary Behr (nee Powers) passed away peacefully, with her beloved husband Klaus by her side, at WRHN – Chicopee Campus Hospital on Sunday morning, August 3, 2025, at the age of 62.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Klaus Behr; her loving daughter Katrina Behr (Sean Leaver); her son Matthew Behr (Samantha); and her cherished granddaughter Lily Behr. Mary will be deeply missed by her mother, Joan Powers; her brothers Ted Powers (Tunde), John Powers (Debbie), Robert Powers (Joann), Patrick Powers (Leeanne), and as well as many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Mary was predeceased by her father Ted Powers, son Alexander Behr, and father-in-law Emil Behr.
Born and raised in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario, Mary dedicated more than 35 years to her work as an Early Childhood Educator and Resource Consultant for regional daycares before retiring. She earned both her Early Childhood Education diploma and her Resource Consultant diploma at Conestoga College; where she also met the love of her life, Klaus. Fittingly, Mary passed away on the same date as their 40th wedding anniversary, a day filled with love and memories.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Diann Sehl and Heather Bott, whose weekly visits brought Mary joy, comfort, and laughter. Special thanks also to Mary’s colleagues from the Region who visited and shared smiles, as well as to the exceptional medical team at WRHN – Chicopee for their care and compassion over the past year and a half.
Mary loved gardening, watching her game shows, playing competitive scrabble with her family, and spending time with family by attending many families’ gatherings.
Mary was the kind of person who made people feel welcome, loved, and heard. She had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that was contagious.
