Surrounded by the love of her family, Melissa Margaret Patterson passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Beloved wife of Derrick Patterson and devoted mother of Sydnee (partner Cole) and Jake. Beloved daughter of Gerry and Margaret Hunter. Dear sister of Sarah Nagge (Paul) and sister-in-law of Lisa Bradley (Chris), Corinne Donald (Scott), and Jaci Herron (Dave). Dear daughter-in-law of Carol and Jack Patterson. Loving aunt to Hunter and Kate Nagge, Kelli and Catherine Bradley, Cole and Jack Donald, and Patrick Herron. Melissa also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins along with her beloved dog Marlee.

Melissa’s greatest joy was her family. She was married to Derrick for 28 wonderful years. Whether it be camping in the summer or cheering on Sydnee and Jake at their sporting events, her family was always her first priority and her greatest love. Family traditions and gatherings played an important role in Melissa’s life as she always looked forward to reconnecting with everyone for special occasions.

No matter the weather, Melissa was always out walking their dog Marlee which connected her to so many people in their neighbourhood. She had a long career at SunLife working in the Compliance Department and cherished the friends she made while she was there.

The family is grateful for the incredible care she received from Dr. Carolyn Fuss and from the team at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Special thanks to Martha Karn and Dr. Martha Taylor for their guidance and support during the final leg of Melissa’s journey.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00am, followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room. As per Melissa’s request, please dress casually. Shorts are expected.
