Peter passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, August 10, 2025. He was 81.

Sorely missed by his loving wife, Evelyn, his son Bill and Bill’s wife Amrita, and his daughter Robyn. Forever loved by his chosen extended families: Zach and Brenda Weston and their sons Charlie and Sam; his niece Allison Boone-Kropf, Tom and their sons Canaan, Jesse and Jacob. Fondly remembered and loved by so many nieces and nephews in England, The Netherlands and the United States.

Predeceased by his parents, Wm. Jack and Anna Gurney, his siblings Ann Denby, Lee Gurney, and John Gurney.

Peter – our Poppy – was a pretty great man. We know this because people say it all the time. He was quick to laugh, and quick to love. He was strong and kind. He liked to work with his hands – building rocking horses, hope chests, toyboxes – anything he could create to show someone he loved them. He spent spring and summers tending his garden – always full of blossoms and birds. He loved old movies and bad jokes. We will miss him terribly.

We are so grateful for the guidance of so many caring and knowledgeable people – Dr. Shvan Korsheed, Dr. Brent Guy, ProResp, Dr. Dawn Yew, the nurses and the team at CarePartners, PSW Avni, Dr. Alexander Trussler and the palliative care nurses at WRHN Chicopee.

Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Peter’s family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Memorial service to take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room.
