Obituary of Don H. Schmidt

Don passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, surrounded by his family at Freeport Hospital in Kitchener.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Schmidt, his children Dave (Shawna), Sharon (Stan), Paul (Selena), Glenn (Melanie), and Doug (Jacquie). Proud grandpa of Brandon (Stevie), Kendra (Jason), Taylor (Caden), Ashley, Halle, Matthew, Tyler, Corbin, Cora and Lexi. Great-grandfather to Atlas and Jack. Don is also survived by his cherished brother Gary and his sisters, Valerie, Cheryl, Mary-Lou, Terri and Patti.

Don worked with the Waterloo Fire Department from 1973 to 2001 and was proud to retire with the rank of Captain.

The family would like to thank and express their gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses in the Freeport Palliative Care Unit for the kindness and care given to Don.

Cremation has taken place.

Don’s family has had a private service. A celebration of Don’s life will take place on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Please contact a family member for further information.
