Obituary of Dr. Desta Leavine

Passed away, with her dear friend Lorrie by her side, on Sunday August 17, 2025. 

Desta Leavine was born on July 6, 1928, and was predeceased by her beloved parents, Dr. Stanley Leavine and Desta G. (née Buse) Leavine, as well as her only sister, Pauline Carole Leavine.

Desta pursued her education at Queen’s University, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed her internship at Toronto General Hospital and went on to receive her specialty training in Dermatology in the United States. She thoroughly enjoyed her medical practice in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, which she continued until her retirement at the age of 70.

A proud member of Westmount Golf and Country Club for 65 years, Desta considered Westmount her second home. Despite 42 years of golf lessons, without notable improvement, she graciously accepted that golf may not have been her calling. She found great joy in dining at the club and in her regular Wednesday bridge games.

Desta was a passionate and adventurous traveler. Her journeys took her across the globe to places such as Machu Picchu, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Sardinia, and she held a particular fondness for London, England and New York City.

Known for her sharp sense of humour and ever-positive outlook, Desta deeply cherished her many friendships. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, finding immense joy in her experiences at the Stratford Festival and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

Cremation has taken place. At Dr. Desta Leavine’s request, there will be no visitation nor a public service.
