Obituary of Roy Joseph Schaefer

Roy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 20, 2025 at WRHN – Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital).  Loving husband of the late Anna. He will be dearly missed by his children Linda (Chris) Taylor, Anita (Steve) Jantzi, Joseph (Jenna), and Lori (Fernando) De Sousa. Eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by his parents Jacob (1996) and Adeline (1977), and by his brother Edward (2011). Dear brother-in-law to Dorothy (Murray) Luft.

Roy grew up on a farm near Ariss. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and loved to tinker on many things.

One of his greatest accomplishments was rebuilding the family cottage in Wasaga Beach where the family spent many happy summers. He absolutely loved thrifting and garage sales. He would come home with many great finds.

He had a gentle disposition and he never knew a stranger. He will be missed by many family and friends.

Special thanks to staff at  ICU Unit 2nd Floor, Nurse Rosie, Dr. Hosek, and Dr. MacKinnon for their care and compassion.
