Obituary of Joan Irene Loucks
Joan Irene Loucks, 92, of Kitchener, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, with family by her side. Born on October 20, 1932, in Stirling, Ontario, she was the only daughter of the late Charles and Irene Bennett, and sister to the late Roy Bennett.
Joan graduated from Business College at just eighteen and began work as a legal secretary. On October 29, 1952, she married John Loucks, with whom she shared 7 decades of devotion, partnership, love, laughs, family, and friends. Together they raised four children - Scot, Craig, Kurt, and Karen - instilling in them her values of determination, humour, practicality, and patience. Joan took immense pride in her role as a mother, and her careful planning and steady hand guided her family with grace.
Her friends remember her as perceptive, witty, fiercely loyal, always impeccably dressed and well organized—a true planner and devoted correspondent. Always staying connected with those she cared for.
Joan enjoyed the theatre and loved almost any musical. Curling was a passion shared by John and Joan, both on the ice and as dedicated spectators. She played a key role in the local curling community and proudly served on the board of directors in 1986 when Kitchener hosted the Labatt Brier. Beyond curling, she loved to cook, entertain, and experiment with recipes—always adding “a little more sugar.” She and John indulged in travel often, especially when it involved the Brier or the Tournament of Hearts.
Joan’s legacy continues through her children Craig Loucks (the late Dale), Kurt Loucks, and Karen Wilson (Paul Clasper); and through her grandchildren Jennifer, Wallace, Samantha (Otto Kadar), David, Thomas, Nicole, and Kiefer. She was predeceased by her husband John, her son Scot (Michele Fish), and her daughter-in-law Dale.
The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to Joan's constant companion, friend and caregiver, Pam. Also, Melisa, Silvi and dozens of PSWs and nurses who made Joan's last 5 years more comfortable.
