Obituary of Waltroud Ratte

Waltraud Ratte passed away peacefully at WRHN at Queen’s Blvd on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 94.

She joins her soulmate, Rolf Ratte (2017), whom she married in 1953. Beloved and doting mother to Bernd (Shelley) and caring and devoted Oma to Gregory (Becky), Stephanie (Matt), and Nicholas. She also leaves behind her brother, Heinz and sisters Erika (Gert) and Ilse (Jorg), along with extended family in Germany.

Waltraud was born in Zellin, Germany, on March 19, 1931. She arrived in Canada with four-year-old Bernie to join her husband in 1958 and start a new chapter of her life. She thrived as a homemaker, and her excellent food made her an honorary mother and Oma to many neighbours and acquaintances. She was especially crafty and known for her elaborate German tortes. She was happiest when she was feeding others or working in her garden and flower beds. She enjoyed front porch sitting and was always glad to chat and have coffee with friends and family.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
