Obituary of James Kuss
The sun shined less brilliantly, clouds grew darker, and birds sang mournfully on the day that our Jimmy left this Earth at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener on October 12, 2025.
Jimmy is survived and will dwell forever in the hearts of his devoted wife and companion of 51 years, Renata, his loving sons: Justin (Amy) and Brandon (Lauren), adored granddaughters and playmates: Charlotte and Evelyn, brother-in-law Stan (Jacqueline), sister-in-law Teresa, niece Nikol (Rafael), and his many cousins from the Chapman and Kuss sides who are scattered all over our beautiful Canada, with whom he spent his childhood and always kept in his heart.
Predeceased by his doting parents Betty (Violet, 2013) and Harold (2012), and his brother Harry. Jim inherited his warm and caring nature from his mom, his work ethic and dedication from his dad, and his love of sports from both.
He was a committed family man who would always prioritize his wife, sons, and granddaughters above all else. Mere words cannot express how much he loved his granddaughters, his little Muffins, who would often come over to visit and together the three of them would play for hours. For those hours he was a kid again and had the best time anyone could have.
Jim, Jimmy, Yimmy, Dad, or Opa, whichever name you knew him by, was a fair-minded, honest and trustworthy man who always had the back of those he loved.
His friends of 45 years from B.F. Goodrich in Kitchener, with whom he played baseball, hockey, cards, went on trips and socialized with to this day, were his best friends and companions. He had wonderful childhood friends with whom he played Stratomatic Baseball for more than 40 years and never stopped. He continued making close friends throughout his life, with whom he also played baseball or coached, went on trips with and attended their weddings and other events. He loved each and every one of his friends, they were all his family, and that’s how they thought of him. He always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and loved, without reservation.
Jimmy was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, Buffalo Sabres, and Dallas Cowboys. He loved all kinds of music, but his favourite band was the Tragically Hip - I’m certain he is now hanging out with Gord Downie. Jimmy also loved animals, he had eight cats and two dogs over his lifetime, which he cared for deeply. They are all waiting for their treats in Heaven, as that is surely where he went.
Jimmy was taken too soon, but his love will fill our hearts forever.
By wishes of the deceased there will be no funeral or service. Jimmy wanted everyone to remember him for how he lived and loved.
Our gratitude to the Emergency staff at St. Mary’s hospital, the sixth floor staff, the fifth floor staff, and many others for the support and loving care on this short journey.
Condolences for the family and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
