Obituary of Bruce Merkley

Passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Mabel Merkley (2025).

Dear father of David (Valeria), Dale (Mary Louise), Doug (Rhonda).

Will be forever remembered by his grandchildren, Sarah, Josh (Laura), Jamieson (Trentt), Mackenzie (Tyson), Madison, Lucas (Emma), Denver, Brooke, Chloe, Kylie, Ella, Matthew, his great grandchildren, Jones, Banks and Florence, and also by his many nieces, nephews, from the Merkley, Purvis, Simpson, Tessmer, Tutt families, and Mary Louise's two sons, Ryan and Joel Skornyak.

Predeceased by his parents, Florence (nee Sherk) and Leonard Merkley and his siblings, Jean Simpson (Robert), Doris Tessmer (Don), Ruth Purvis (Wes), and Keith Merkley (Ruth).

Bruce had a lifelong relationship with Our Lord and practiced that faith throughout his lifetime.

Bruce was very active in sports over the years, with his love of hockey, himself being a goalie, umpiring, (Umpire in Chief), for the KW Women’s Fastball Association, and in more recent years, running a Shuffleboard League at the Rockway Centre and the Westhill Retirement Apartments.

The Merkley Family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for the care Bruce received from the staff at the Listowel Memorial Hospital and from the staff at Riverview Park Retirement Residence.

A Celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
