Obituary of Martina Van Esch
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Martina Petronella Van Esch on Sunday, November 2, 2025, just shy of her 93rd birthday. Martina (Tini), predeceased by her husband Marinus, will be dearly missed by her sons John (Cathy) and Lenard, and five grandchildren, Erik (deceased 2024), Alex, Jacob, Blair and Adam. As well, six great-grandchildren.
Martina was born in Tilburg, Netherlands, where she met Morris in the textile factory in Tilburg. Here she honed the craft of invisible mending, to which there were none as skilled. Their journey for a new life started when they moved to Canada and became part of a tight-knit group of the Dutch community in London.
“Oma” had an innate ability to make friends and chat with anyone she came across. Her Dutch specialty dishes were legendary with the grandchildren, and meatball soup always graced the dinner table. Oma’s crunchy chocolate chip cookies never lasted long after exiting her oven.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held with immediate family only.
