Obituary of James "Jim" Kuntz

Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3^rd, 2025 at WRHN (formerly Grand River Hospital).

Jim was a devoted family man, friend to many, and committed to his faith. He was predeceased earlier this year by his wife Shirley (Winter) of 67 years. Together they raised, loved and offered direction to their 6 children. Jim leaves daughters Beverley (Larry), Shelley (Bernie) and sons Randy (Leisa), Garry (Margaret), Robert, and Daniel (Karen). Greatly missed by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, Jim will also be remembered by a large extended family with 3 surviving sisters and 1 brother, many nieces and nephews as well as good friends and neighbours. He joins in heaven his wife, parents, a brother and sister and all the dear friends that went before.

Jim’s roots were in the small town of Formosa and he moved to the KW area where he started as a framer but had his sights on starting something of his own. Jim Kuntz Construction Ltd. began in 1965 with Jim being a contractor of custom houses that gave many families something to call a home. After retirement he turned his passion into fine woodworking, creating award winning furniture pieces and in his latter years turned wood vessels. Jim also created pieces for his long serving Our Lady of Lourdes Church crafting their angels for new births and crosses for the deceased. He was a devoted member of Optimist Club of Kitchener Waterloo since 1973, spending endless hours caring for the property as well as acting as treasurer for 10 terms. He was an enthusiastic gardener, tending his roses and seedlings to the end.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial  will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home in the Fireside Room. Interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
