Obituary of Michael "Mike" Koy

Passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the age of 62.

Survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 39 years, Cheryl, his loving children Christopher, Jessica (Pablo), and Michelle. Mike will be deeply missed by his mother-in-law, Gladys and in-laws including Rob (Janice), Brenda (Ken), and Debbie (Todd). As well, he will be deeply missed by many other family and friends.

Predeceased by his mother May Koy, father Dieter Koy, and father in-law John Kerr. 

During his early years, Mike graduated from Kitchener Collegiate Institute (KCI) and then completed a gas fitting license at Conestoga College. Mike worked as a machine operator for Ontario Die Company (ODC) and later worked for numerous companies as a licensed gas fitter. He finally transitioned into his role as a machine operator at Krug Furniture for 26 years. During this time Mike also annually worked at Concordia Club during Oktoberfest as a security guard on the dance floor.

Mike loved cheering on his favorite Nascar race driver, Kyle Busch from the comfort of his own home and at the Michigan Speedway with a cold Busch beer and Black & Mild cigar in hand. He also enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Red Wings. Mike had a love for old cars specifically his 69’ blue Chevy Impala. Mike loved to take his car out on a sunny afternoon to cruise around Kitchener-Waterloo especially to his favorite park, Rockway Gardens.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 5 – 9 p.m. Funeral service to take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room.

Throughout his professional and personal life, Mike never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone around him.
