Obituary of Maria "Marcela" Totoian

Our beloved mother, Maria Totoian, passed away December 16, 2025, at St. Mary’s General Hospital, in Kitchener, Ontario.

She was affectionately known as Marcela and was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her son Dan (Doru), her daughter Adina Douglas, son in law Neil, niece Dana Sandu, and her partner George.  In Romania, she is survived by her sister Elena, her niece/nephew Oana/Mihai, their son Bogdan, plus many relatives, friends in Romania, Canada and abroad. 

She will be remembered for the dignified, Christian life she lived, and the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. 

Maria and her loving, deceased husband Traian, left communist Romania in 1981, in order to offer their children a better life. The move was a success and their children will be eternally grateful. 

Her spirit will continue to inspire, to uplift us, and we will carry forth her legacy of love, compassion for her family and the community at large.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the funeral home’s Historic Kuntz House. Interment to follow at Parkview Cemetery.
