Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Loggie Boyd
Passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Tom was in his 93rd year.
Loving husband and best friend of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Boyd, to whom he was married for a wonderful 68 years.
Tom was born in Lesmahagow and raised in Larkhall, Scotland, before immigrating to Canada in 1953. His professional journey began with an apprenticeship as a chartered accountant in Scotland, but his life took a new direction after he answered an advertisement for the Bank of Toronto. Upon arriving in Ontario, he worked in Galt and later Port Hope, where he met his beloved Betty at a dinner party.
Though he began his career as a banker and an accountant, Tom followed his passion for education. In 1970, he earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and joined Betty in the teaching profession. Together, they dedicated many years to their students at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School in Baden, Ontario.
Tom will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his sharp mind, his generosity, and his unwavering devotion to Betty, who predeceased him earlier this year. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 3 – 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 11 a.m., with Fa.
