With family by her side, Beulah went Home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the age of 92. She passed peacefully from her earthly home at The Village at University Gates, Waterloo, to her eternal home.
Loving wife of 68 years of the late Leonhard Frede (2024). Devoted mother of Kathy Dobes (Karel) and Jeff Frede (Norma). Cherished grandmother of Jill Haan, Janine Sunga (Billy), Colin Frede (Amy Langer) and Evan Frede (Jamie). Known as “GGma” to Liam, Tyler, Wyatt and Aubrey, they will miss their very special great grandmother, as will Sebastien and Brielle Dobes.
Beulah was born at home on the family farm located on the 4th Line of former Peel Township. She was the third oldest of fourteen children born to the late Eli and Vera (Habermehl) Bauman. Beulah’s childhood was shaped by family, faith and community. The one-room S.S. #3 Peel School is where Beulah received her formal grade 8 education.
When Beulah was 18, she accepted a job in Elmira working for the family of the late Don and Hazel (Dreisinger) Brown. It was in their backyard that Beulah met the love of her life, Leonhard, who lived next door. Leonhard and Beulah were married on September 10, 1955, at Elmira Baptist Church.
In the early years, Beulah worked from home sewing gloves for Ontario Glove. As her children got older, she worked for St. Monica House (now Monica Place) as a house mom to pregnant young women. Later, Beulah joined WRDSB as a Teacher’s Assistant working with special needs children at both Elizabeth Ziegler and Bridgeport Public Schools before retiring in 1994.
Beulah was deeply committed to her faith and family. As a follower of Jesus, she was gracious, consistent and content as she persevered through the confusing days of her Alzheimer’s journey. We are so proud of our mom and were privileged to give her the gifts of our care, presence and devotion as she became more dependent on us. Special thanks to the staff at University Gates who lovingly cared for Beulah and to her wonderful companion, Sylvia Lammers, who spent many hours with our dear mom.
