Obituary of Bette Schmidt
Bette Schmidt (née Lee) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her 93rd year. She is survived by son Samuel (Christine), daughter Mary (Bill), grandchildren Milo, Sarah, Annie, Katrina, Tessa and Chloe, and great grandson Everett. She was predeceased by her spouse Karl Schmidt and all five of her siblings.
Bette was born and raised in Elmira, Ontario, where she met Karl at the furniture factory where they both worked. After marrying in 1960 and having their children, they moved to Kitchener where Karl was a machinist and Bette was a bookkeeper. The family moved to Waterloo in 1968.
Music was Bette’s passion, and for many years she was a member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church choir. Later she joined the KW Philharmonic choir, the Galt Kiltie band and the Waterloo band. She was also an avid card player, and once she retired she took up her favourite game of bridge at Wing 404 Senior Centre. For 20 years she was the director of the bridge club there.
Bette will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks go to the staff at Columbia Forest LTC for their excellent care, right to the end.
A funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian church 50 Erb Street West in Waterloo on Saturday January 3, 2026 at 11: 00 a.m. with the Rev. Hugh Donnelly officiating. A brief reception will follow in the church hall. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family or donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation may be arranged through the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or at www.erbgood.com.
