Obituary of Robert Malcolm Hilchey

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Hilchey, who peacefully passed away on January 9, 2026, surrounded by his two daughters. He is now reunited with his loving wife, Dianne.

Robert was a devoted father to Julie McIntyre (Joseph Svilpa) of London and Lisa Hilchey (Neil Sanders) of Oakville, and a proud grandpa to Dylan and Cailey McIntyre and Nathan and Tyler Sanders. He was a dear brother to Carolyn Jordan, and uncle to Kathy Jordan and Jenny McCormick (Matthew McCormick). He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie St Clair and Dora Hilchey of Middleton, Nova Scotia.

Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Robert grew up as a son of an RCAF family and moved frequently throughout his childhood, living in several provinces across Canada. After marrying Dianne in July 1969, they settled in Kitchener-Waterloo, where he made his home for the last 57 years. Robert worked in the Engineering Department at MTD Products for 36 years before retiring in 2005.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the first responders, the Grand River Hospital emergency team, and the Hamilton General Hospital Trauma and ICU teams for their compassionate care of our father.  They also extend their heartfelt thanks to friends, colleagues and neighbors for their love and support which are deeply appreciated

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel of the funeral home. A reception to follow in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room.
