Obituary of John James Watkins
On December 31, 2025, we said goodbye to one of the most remarkable men we have ever known. I was blessed to call him my dad.
Born on July 1, 1929, John embodied the timeless virtues of respect, integrity, and refinement—qualities that defined him as a true gentleman. He passed away peacefully with his wife of 51 years and the love of his life, Evelyn Johnstone Watkins, by his side.
Dad was predeceased by his father, Arnold Radley; his mother, Irene Doris; and his brother, also named Arnold Radley.
He will be deeply missed by his entire family, especially his children: Paul Radley (Patricia), Joanne Lesley, and Andrew James (Tina).
He was a proud and devoted Grandpa who delighted in the accomplishments of his grandchildren: Sasha Elizabeth, James Radley (Eloisa), Brittany Ann (James), Justin Michael (Kristen), Jessica Lesley (Matthew), Andreas James, and Markus Franz.
His heart was filled with joy as a great‑grandfather to Teah Josina, Nyx Artha, Odin Ophion, Emmy Rose, Winnie Mae, Lachlan Michael, Jack Wyatt, Declyn Rose, and Callum Michael.
A man of many talents, John mastered Mechanical Engineering and approached every pursuit with remarkable dedication. His love of music was lifelong—he sang and played piano from childhood, later trained his voice classically, learned the oboe in retirement, composed and arranged for choir and orchestra, and even conducted a stage band. His creativity and curiosity were boundless: he built a boat, taught himself golf and tennis alongside Evelyn, and traveled the world, embracing every opportunity to learn, explore, and grow.
He will be remembered for his intellect, artistry, and adventurous spirit, as well as his unwavering love for his family and his commitment to living with dignity and grace.
“Music is the wine that fills the empty cup of silence.” — John Watkins
