Obituary of Michael Urschel

Passed away peacefully with his loving wife Irma at his side on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the age of 86.

He will be greatly missed by his children from a previous marriage: Veronica (Guy Good), Mike (Elaine), Rob (Brigitte), Erica (Tim), and his grandchildren Matthew (Denisa), and Nathan. Michael is also survived by his brother Wolfgang (Rosemary), and nephews Michael Paul, and Dustin.

Born in Bucharest, Romania, Michael moved with his parents Sara and Michael Sr. to Germany, where he spent his childhood in Stuttgart. He immigrated to Canada in 1954, and finally settled in Kitchener, where he worked for many years at BF Goodrich. Michael was an avid soccer player and coach, and a proud member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

In 2006, he married Irma and their time together was filled with activity, travel (especially cruising), sports, dancing, and enjoying time with many friends. A vibrant, active gentleman who loved to sing, Michael faced many physical challenges in his last years due to Parkinsons.

Daily attention from Irma allowed Michael to have the best quality of life possible as a resident at Trinity Village Care Centre. A special thank you to all the staff at Trinity Village for their exceptional kindness and care.

Cremation has taken place, and a Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The Memorial Service will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 12:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.
