Obituary of Peter McGuire

With heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Peter McGuire at Heritage House, St. Jacobs, on January 22, 2026, in Waterloo.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Leo McGuire and Doris (née Helliwell), and by his brother, David McGuire (2025).

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 54 years, Elaine (née Beatty); his children Ann-Marie Martin (Paul), Ian (Sarah), and Elizabeth McGuire; and his cherished granddaughter, Emily Martin.

Peter was born in Manchester, England, and in 1957 emigrated to Canada with his family to begin a new life in Toronto. He spent many years working for Dominion in both Toronto and Winnipeg, before being transferred to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1983, when the business was taken over by National Grocers/Loblaws. Prior to his retirement, Peter served as Senior Manager of Corporate Transportation at National Grocers, and later worked with the Waterloo Region Food Bank, reflecting his generous spirit and desire to give back to the community.

Peter was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather—a true British gentleman and devoted family man who always put his family first. He was known for his kindness and generosity, and for his quick British wit that never failed to lighten the moment. He and Elaine shared a deep love of travel, hosting many trips with drivers and their wives for National Grocers/Loblaws and attending numerous North American International Truck Driving Championship rodeos over the years. Together, they enjoyed many memorable adventures throughout England and Scotland.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation Canada, the Waterloo Region Food Bank, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Special thanks to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Heritage House for their exceptional care, kindness, and unwavering support. Your professionalism, warmth, and genuine compassion meant more to our family than words can express. You made Peter’s and our time with you truly special.

Until we meet again.
