Obituary of John Albrecht
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John G Albrecht who passed away on February 4, 2026 from injuries he succumbed to.
He was the cherished husband of Mary (Reimer) Albrecht with whom he shared over 63 years of marriage.
John will be forever remembered by his children John Albrecht (Sabrina Struckholt), Jackie Albrecht (Bryan Smith) and Rob Albrecht (Nancy Stolper). He was the proud Opa to Nikita Smith (Piero del Valle), Possum Albrecht, Vance Smith and Adelia Albrecht. He will be deeply missed.
John was the son of the late Franz and Julia (Herbst) Albrecht. He will be deeply missed by his sister Hilde Balzer (Erhard Balzer) and predeceased by his brother Franz Albrecht(Rosa). John has many wonderful extended family members and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
John was an entrepreneurial, intelligent and determined man who came from Germany with nothing and built his life to his fullest. He always had a project on the go. He was a real go getter!
Many of you may know him as John from John’s Nursery which he and Mary began next to their home near St Jacobs in 1962. He was happy to give anyone a good deal and has helped to make Waterloo Region much greener. He worked at the same time for 20 years at Carlings/Labatts as a machinist. He designed and built a large apartment building, his daughter’s professional office and owned numerous rental properties in Kitchener-Waterloo. His energy was boundless. He enjoyed life with his friends to the same extent and was often the life of the party - or he’d fall asleep because he worked so much! He always encouraged his family to reach their greatest potential. Work was his hobby, but he cherished his family and friends.
Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Thursday February 12, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service to take place at Waterloo North Mennonite Church 100 Benjamin Rd, Waterloo, ON on Saturday February 14, 2026 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
