Obituary of Judith Helene Greer

Judith Helene Greer (née Hume)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Greer on February 8, 2026. Judy died suddenly and peacefully in hospital after a short illness, six years to the day of the passing of her husband of 52 years, Bob. We like to think they are together again (perhaps even bickering.)

Judy is survived by her daughters Laura (Mark Gibson) and Stephanie (Tim Haldenby) and her cherished grandchildren Kyan, Parker, Zoe and Luke. She will be deeply missed by her sisters-in-law Margaret and Sheila, brother-in-law Don, along with many cousins, her nephews and their families, and her community of friends at Luther Village.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Greer, her parents Katherine (Kate) and James (Jim) Hume, brother James (Jamie) Hume and her in-laws (second parents) Marianne and Ernie Greer.

Judy was born on February 7, 1943 at just 29 weeks, her “head the size of a teacup” when her parents brought her home from the hospital. She was proud to hail from Leamington, Ontario and grew up on the shores of Lake Erie, instilling a love of the water and the beach from an early age.

She attended teacher’s college in London, Ontario and met her future husband while they were both at university in Waterloo – she at WLU and he at the University of Waterloo. They chose Kitchener-Waterloo as their home for the rest of their lives.

Judy loved music, playing the piano and singing in choirs her whole life. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, and its choir, for over 50 years.

Judy loved her family deeply and was endlessly proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was always very supportive of the extended young people in her life, seeing the potential in everyone.

Lessons we all should take from Judy: Sing that song and enjoy the music, stay sharp with a daily crossword puzzle, enjoy a cup of tea, take time to gab with your friends, cheer on the Blue Jays, and always order the crème brûlée for dessert if available.

A community visitation will be held on Friday, February 13 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo. A private family internment and celebration of life will be held later in the spring.

Donations in Judy’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or via www.erbgood.com.
