Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Joyce Berlet
Betty was called home to heaven on February 13, 2026 in her 89th year of age. Born in 1936 to Alvy and Nellie Boyt in the St. Catharines area she remained there until age seven when the family moved to the Dunnville community where her father established a dairy farm along the shores of Lake Erie.
Betty attended a rural public school and then Dunnville High School. She then gained employment for five years as a telephone switchboard operator. She married Carson Robins in 1955 and gave birth to their daughter, Linda in 1956.
Betty is survived by her only remaining sibling Jean Asher (Allan), stepsons Michael and Robert (Karen) Berlet, many nieces and nephews, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents in 1958 & 1993, sister Marjorie 1966, brother Stanley 2018, first husband in 1987 and her daughter Linda in 2022.
Betty lived in the Sudbury area for 15 years (two of them on Manitoulin Island). While in Sudbury, Betty worked at the Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator and then switched to being a medical secretary for nine years before moving to Kitchener in the late 1971. She was employed at the KW hospital as a medical secretary to the medical director for 22 years in administration. She then worked for various specialists and retired in 2009 to take care of her husband.
Betty married Donald Berlet in 1976. Don had COPD and died in 2012 after a lengthy illness.
Besides her medical career she was a secretary/treasurer for the Canadian Council of the Blind-Ontario Division for 27 years. Betty was deeply involved in her church, singing in the choir, being clerk of Session and ending up being Treasurer.
She loved her garden and flowers, always aware of who really made them grow and bloom. When not in her garden she was in the kitchen cooking or baking for her friends, especially for birthdays or the knitting group at Winston Park Home.
Thank you to all those who helped to make her life complete and take care of her through her latter days.
