Spence, Sue (Susan)

April 26, 1954 – February 15, 2026

Sue passed away surrounded by family at her home in the memory care wing at AgeCare West Williams, Kitchener on Sunday, February 15, 2025.

Survived by her sons, Jason, and Gord (Vanessa Rivir); grandson Lenny; and her siblings, Bruce, Linda, Jean, and Robert; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by her parents, Flo and Jack, best friend and husband, Jim Spence, sister Brenda Bosak, and brother Franklin.

Sue was best known for her warmth and genuine care for those around her. After moving from her birthplace in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, she eventually settled in Sarnia, Ontario, meeting and marrying Jim Spence. She worked in various positions, but the bulk of her career was spent as a registration clerk at Bluewater Health in Sarnia where she took great pride in helping reassure those who were at the hospital for surgeries and other anxiety-inducing appointments.

Sue was very proud of both of her sons and was an outstanding mother to them both. Family was always her priority, and she often used her skills as a talented seamstress to make clothing and costumes, as well as embroidered bunting bags for newborns who joined her extended family. She was deeply involved at High Park United Church in Sarnia, volunteering in a variety of roles, including Sunday School leadership, bazaar coordinator, singing in the choir, and all sorts of work in the church kitchen. Sue was an excellent baker, complimenting her husband Jim’s skills as a cook.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents at AgeCare West Williams for their welcome and exceptional care for Sue since 2019.
