Hi Peter & Stephen and families;
We are so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was pretty amazing! One of my early memories of visiting you as a family, was your Dad working with you guys on electric trains and thinking that was a pretty cool thing for you to be doing together.
His sense of humour was something else that I remember about him, and I can understand why your Dad and my Dad have been best of friends since 6th grade. I thought you might enjoy this photo of the 2 of them "river-ratting". Dad says they were around 14 when this was taken.
Please know that you're in our thoughts and prayers as you process everything that losing a parent entails...

Sue: Forgive me if I told you this already, but that pic is phenomenal. We referenced Bill & Dad rafting in our eulogy. So nice to hear from you. Wish I could get out to BC to see you folks--maybe some day. I tried to contact Rich but am not sure it reached him--we still drive through western Indiana sometimes on the way to see family. Blessings to you, Des & Bill!

A gentleman and a wonderful person to be around. He was always kind and a smile on his face. I taught at Cameron Heights across the hall from Vern, and he made me feel welcome when I first entered teaching. He was unforgettable! Annette Kenning

I was sad that there was no one from Grace MB Church that could attend when Vern passed away. The few of us still left when the church merged into Belmont Village Church are not young anymore. Some that can still travel are in Spain right now. We all appreciated Vern & Carol so much over the years. He truly did have a contagious smile and he brought joy with him. We remember him and are thankful we had the opportunity to get to know him. Anne Wagner

I joined the CHCI staff in 1982. The staff at the school was so welcoming and inclusive. It was a special place.
Vern was one of the big reasons why this was so. I enjoyed lunch time kibitzing and discussions with Vern.
He drove me and several others to Humber College in his Volvo wagon, where we watched the Golden Gaels win the All Ontario Basketball Championship.
Always kind and genuinely caring for others, Vern was a wonderful man.

Sincere condolences to the family. Vern loved well and was well loved. We are thankful for good memories of him, and for lessons learned, from him. His interest in , and care for others, including all creatures great and small; that twinkle in his eye, his smile, his warm and loving personality; his sense of humour, his Joy of singing ; his interesting story telling, are some of the things with which he gifted us. May he Rest In Peace; well-earned.

Vern was a kind, warm man. The History department members at Cameron Heights were so fortunate to be part of Vern's circle of light. May God bless Vern's loved ones in this time of grief.

Our sincere condolences. We trust you will experience God's care and compassion and the love and support of many friends who held Vernon in such high regard. I first met him on the football field of what is now Waterloo College, and not that often over the years. But each time we encountered him or his family were felt as though we were kindred spirits.
Courage, Grace and Serenity.

I had the pleasure to have Vern as a history teacher at Cameron Heights. I enjoyed his teaching, but I think I was more impressed with the way he treated us as students.
Later in life, I was reacquainted with him and Carol thru family and church. Then I knew why he treated others so well...his faith.
It was a joy and privilege to know him. I look forward to seeing him again when I am called home

We enjoyed getting to know Vern & Carol when they attended Grace Mennonite Brethren in their later years. Unfortunately Covid came along and once services resumed Vern was unable to attend any more. Over the years we enjoyed hearing many stories from Vern.
