Obituary of Russell Pfeffer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Pfeffer, who left us peacefully at his home at Barnswallow Place Care Community in Elmira on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in his 90th year. Born on December 20, 1936, Russell lived a gentle, thoughtful, and richly connected life, always treasuring the people he loved most.

Russell was predeceased by his parents, Martha (1968) and Ezra Pfeffer (1961), and by his brother Wayne (2004), whose memories he carried with deep affection. He shared an especially close bond with his cherished aunt, Amanda Rehkopf (2012) (Art). Russell and Aunt Amanda enjoyed many adventures together planning trips, exploring new places, and indulging in real, authentic German food. The twinkle in his eye when he spoke of these moments said everything about the joy she brought to his life.

Russell held strong and treasured family ties with his nephew Ronald Pfeffer, Ronald’s wife Karen, and their family, Shaun (Jennifer), Ashley, and Ronnie (Dre). His heart was especially full when it came to his great-great nieces and nephew, Brooklyn, Quinn and Daxton. Russell loved spending time with the family and being welcomed into special celebrations. One of his most treasured moments was receiving a portrait of his immediate Pfeffer family; the smile on his face was priceless, filled with pride and emotion.

He also shared a close and meaningful relationship with his cousin Dianne Pond (Don). Together, they shared many dinners, countless laughs, and memorable visits often accompanied by one of Aunt Amanda’s cherished toasts, a tradition that always brought everyone a little closer.

Russell found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He absolutely adored Mickey Mouse, proudly wearing a special glow‑in‑the‑dark Disney World shirt that became one of his favourites. Another highlight of his days came in the form of homemade cookies lovingly baked with the kids and brought to him, his beautiful grin stretching from ear to ear as he savoured each treat and the love that came with them.

Russell will be remembered for his warmth, his gentle spirit, and the joy he found in being surrounded by family. His presence brought comfort, his stories brought smiles, and his love created memories that will be cherished forever.

You will be forever missed.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Barnswallow Place Care Community for their care and compassion.

A private family interment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
