Obituary of Mary Nora Pychel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Nora Pychel on February 28, 2026. Mary was born in Cambridge (Galt), on March 14, 1930. She met the love of her life and soulmate, Joe Pychel, and they enjoyed 57 wonderful and happy years together until his passing in 2009. She is survived by her loving children, Lynn Walker and Brian Pychel (Lisa). Cherished grandmother of Erin (Steven), Brad (Olivia), Deanna (Chris), Ashley (Paul), Robert, Michael (Chloé), and great-granddaughter, Ava. Also survived by her niece, Marie Ostrowski (Richard) and great-niece, Lauren (Alex). Predeceased by her dear parents-in-law, Fred and Anna Pychel, her sister, Anne Smyrko, and her son-in-law, Kirk Walker.

Mary worked as a Material Control Supervisor at Electrohome in Kitchener for many years before her retirement. She was quite the five-pin bowler and was the heart and soul of her Friday Night Mixed League team at Waterloo Bowling Lanes. From spring until fall, she loved to golf with her husband, friends and family at Rockway Golf Club, where she was always dressed to the “tee”. Mary and Joe always looked forward to their golfing trips to Florida with their close group of friends.

At home, Mary enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens and she had a real passion for cooking. Her grandkids especially loved when she would make huge batches of Baba’s Homemade Pedaheh, Holubchi (cabbage rolls), and other traditional Ukrainian cuisine. She also loved cooking with Joe — they enjoyed spending hours in the kitchen together, always with the Blue Jays game or a golf tournament on in the background.

Anyone who knew Mary would agree that she had a special gift for bringing people together. She loved playing card games with her friends and family, where her infectious laughter would light up the room. She was so full of energy and zest and at the same time would revel in the role of quiet observer, treasuring every moment shared with her loved ones.

Mary will forever be remembered for her unwavering support and dedication to her family. Through thick and thin, no matter the distance, she exuded unconditional love and a steadying presence as Wife, Mom, Grandma, Baba, Babcha, Sister, Aunt, Best Friend and Neighbour. She was a strong, resilient, beautiful woman who always put family first.

Mary will be dearly missed as she reunites with her beloved Joe.

Respecting Mary’s wishes, there will be no visitation nor funeral. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations in Mary’s name to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
