Obituary of Gordon McLeod Hague
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Gordon’s sudden passing in a tragic accident in Bucerías, Mexico, on February 25, 2026.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy; his loving daughters Rachel (Matthew), Allison, and Natalie; and his cherished grandchildren, Marina and Robin. He will be deeply missed by his siblings John (Suzanne), David (Bridget), and Nancy (Derek); his parents-in-law Maura and Timothy Murphy; many nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends. Predeceased by his parents, Daphne and Kenneth Hague, and his brother, Kenneth Hague.
Gord was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, and spent most of his life in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario — the place he proudly called home.
His childhood summers were spent at Lac Manitou in the Laurentians, a place he later shared with his own children, passing on its magic and creating some of the family’s happiest memories. As retirement approached, Gord and Wendy bought a cottage in Grand Bend, where they loved welcoming friends and family and creating new memories together.
Gord was a graduate of the business program at Western University, where he played squash, built lifelong friendships, and met his soulmate, Wendy — the beginning of a partnership that only grew stronger throughout their nearly 40 years of marriage.
Fiercely independent and guided by instinct, Gord built a career defined by entrepreneurship and self-reliance. He worked as a project manager, real estate investor, and property manager, taking great pride in being self-employed for most of his professional life. He was especially generous in supporting young people, giving them opportunities, trusting them, and encouraging them to learn and grow.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Gord took great pride in renovating several Waterloo homes — including two for his family — long before house flipping became a trend. Where others saw daunting projects, he saw possibility and the opportunity to create something beautiful and lasting.
In recent years, Gord and Wendy embraced life fully, travelling together to places including Belize, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, New York City, and across eastern Canada. They shared many joyful days golfing, playing pickleball, and hosting lively dinner parties with friends and family.
Gord will be remembered as a loyal friend with a sharp wit and a competitive spirit. He wasn’t a sore loser, but he could certainly be an insufferable winner — no matter the activity, he showed up ready to play. He loved to laugh and never took life too seriously, often finding humour in himself.
Above all, Gord took immense pride in being a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted father who instilled confidence and independence in his daughters, and a proud grandfather who found pure joy in Marina and Robin. His love of family, determination, and spirited humour will live on in the generations he shaped.
A celebration of Gord’s life will be held at Four Fathers Brewing, 125 Guelph Ave., Cambridge, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region in honour of Gord’s memory.
