Obituary of Tom Preece
PREECE, Tom Sr.
April 1, 1952 – March 5, 2026
Tom passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at WRHN at Midtown in Kitchener.
Survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Scheerer-Preece. His two sons, Tom/TJ (wife Stacey), Ryan (wife Rachel).
He is also missed by his cherished grandchildren, Sky, True, Hunter, Oliver/Ollie, Walker, Logan, Rayne, Kat and Roman.
Predeceased by his parents, Elroy/Curly and Joy Preece.
Tom was a proud member of CMC 046 Motorcycle Club. Every Tuesday without fail, Tom would be polishing his motorcycle and his boots. It was a meet and greet night. A dirty bike and boots were not acceptable…LOL
The CMC participated in various rides over the course of the year. Some were for charity, and others were pleasure rides for the group. Many a time, he would hop on his bike and go for a ride just for the pleasure involved.
He was also a member of the Waterloo Police Auxiliary for over 20 years. Tom had dreams for a long time of being a cop. Unfortunately, requirements were different at the time he applied. He was about 2 inches too short. So, he joined the Auxiliary instead.
Tom had many hobbies, but especially cooking. On Sunday, Tom always made supper. It was always a surprise. A good surprise (usually), but once in a while, not so good!
Tom was involved with drum Corps for many years. Both his sons were members of Dutch Boy. Tom was always travelling with the group during the summer. Driving the bus, hauling the food truck or making breakfast. Tom did it all.
Later in life, Tom got an opportunity to join Scout House. Every week, he would faithfully go to practice. Scout House was his favourite drum corps as a child. For him, it was always a great weekend if his parents took him to a drum corps show.
Tom was an ardent fisherman. From the time I started dating him, it was understood that Saturday morning was for fishing. So, he fished, and I slept …LOL.
Tom was an employee at Zehrs for over 45 years and cherished the connections that he made there.
The best part about Tom was his ability to crack jokes and make people laugh. Not a day went by without Tom telling me some kind of joke. Some were good, and some were pretty bad. But it was that special part of the day that we shared together.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with remarks and prayers taking place at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family or donations to the Canadian Cancer Society may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at 519-745-8445 or at www.erbgood.com.
