Obituary of Georgina "Georgie" Helen Godbout
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother and Mé, Georgina (Georgie) Helen Godbout (née O’Hearn), on March 14, 2026.
She will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her daughters, Renée, Andrée (Tommy), and Dominique, and by her treasured grandchildren Noah, Mateo, Danielle, Sophie, and Leanna, who were the light of her life. Georgie was predeceased by her husband, Jean-Paul Godbout.
Georgie was the loving sister of Jack O’Hearn, Ron O’Hearn, Patrick O’Hearn, and Jane Landra, and was predeceased by her dear sisters Rose Fitzgerald and Ann Lacroix.
Georgie was truly one in a million – a rare and beautiful soul whose quiet strength and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her eloquence, wisdom, kindness, and grace were a guiding light to all who knew her.
A gifted piano player, Georgie shared her love of music as the choir director at Ste-Agnès Parish in Azilda for many years. Before losing her vision, she found great joy in cooking for those she loved, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and the comfort of shared meals. She also loved crafts, reading, playing games, and above all, the beauty of music that continued to live within her.
Georgie devoted much of her life to lovingly caring for her daughter Dominique, who lives with severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the many challenges she faced in her own life, her devotion, compassion, and unwavering support for Dominique never faltered. Those who knew Georgie often remarked that she never complained a single day in her life.
In the later years of her life, Georgie faced immense health challenges with remarkable courage and faith, including battling breast cancer three times, losing her vision at the age of 62, and living with scleroderma. Her strength was extraordinary – not loud or boastful, but quiet, steadfast, and enduring. It was the kind that lifts others up while silently carrying its own burdens. To know Georgie was to witness courage, humility, and love in their purest forms.
Her family was her greatest pride and deepest joy. She lived for family gatherings, summer BBQs, and the simple moments that brought everyone together. Creating joyful and lasting memories with her daughters and grandchildren was her greatest purpose in life.
Georgie believed deeply that the truest way to live was to give freely, love generously, live simply, and expect nothing in return.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace – free from pain and surrounded by light. Her love will forever live on in the hearts of those blessed to call her Mom, Mé, sister, and friend.
