Passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Hospice Waterloo Region.
Survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer (Matthew) Payne, and Alison (John) Bodendorfer and her sister Joan Ingham and sister-in-law Nina Hopewell. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Quinn and Olivia Payne and Riley Bodendorfer. Anne will also be fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her dear husband of 58 years, Ronald Hopewell (2022), and her parents, Kenneth and Marjorie Mountford, and stepfather Richard Evans.
At a young age Anne was always wanting to take care of the things she loved as well as her family and friends. She attended Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal QC for nursing and graduated in 1964. She had a long and varied career that started with private care, assisting a General Practitioner, in Hospital as a head nurse on a surgical floor and finally in Care Homes.
Early on she volunteered for Brownies, as a Guide leader, due to her daughter's involvement. Later in life, when she retired, she became more involved with volunteering. When her husband Ron was diagnosed with Alzheimers they became involved with MAREP (Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program) helping put together information guiding others on how to live with this disease. There were limited resources and support at that time for those impacted by this disease, and she was instrumental, along with a few other people, in starting a support group named Memory Boosters. This group is still going strong today due to the City of Kitchener taking it on. She was a heavily involved parishioner at St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church in Kitchener over the past few years. Becoming a member of the Health Council and Parish Council, started a bereavement group and a knitting group (which made numerous prayer shawls) and was an active greeter welcoming regular and new members to the church.
She was a knitter from early on and then found needlepoint, which she framed and proudly displayed. She learned to play guitar and always loved to sing whenever she could. She loved to garden, planting vegetables and flowers, with a strong affection for her roses. One of her favourite activities was swimming, which she did regularly at her apartment complex. Over the years she loved to travel with her family, husband and friends, having wonderful experiences along the way. She loved meeting new people and always connected in one way or another.
Special thanks to everyone at Hospice Waterloo Region for their wonderful and thoughtful care of our Mother in her final days.
