Anna Steffler, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home at University Gates, surrounded by the love and chatter of the family that was her universe.

Born in Maryhill, the third oldest of ten, Anna was a naturally caring, nurturing and calming presence to her entire family.  Her kindness and compassion touched all those around her.  Whether it was treats snuck into a coat pocket, a few dollars discreetly hidden in a wallet or a pair of shoes for the down on their luck person at the front door, her ongoing willingness to aid those in need was boundless.  She wore the humility of her humble roots openly and shared of herself freely.  She took great pride in her role as housekeeper and cook at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church rectory, where she was loved and valued for more than ten years.

Anna loved life and found great joy in the smiles of little children, arranging family events, and her flowers.  She was an avid gardener intent on beautifying the world around her, including the wild spaces of Hunt Club 65.  She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her spouse of sixty-four years, Robert Joseph Steffler (1928-2019) and to her children, Carol Rabley-Koch and Brian Steffler (Shellie).

She is predeceased by her sisters, Doris Ricker and Louise Warkentin and her brothers George, Willie and Eddie Halter.  She is survived by her sisters Shirley Stanley, Betty Bauman and Marie Norris and by her brother Peter Halter.  She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren: Kyle, Luke (Amanda), Jenna Rabley (and their father Wayne Rabley), Alison Koch (Luke) (and her father Chris Koch), Krista George (David), Brittany Cardadeiro (Kyle) and Brent Steffler (Kelsey).  Her spirit lives on in her great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Theo, Elaina, Paisley, Anna, Arlow, Cooper, Leni and Ava.

We express our gratitude to the staff of Claire Hills Retirement Waterloo and to University Gates Waterloo. Anna resided for six years at Claire Hills until her more recent move to University Gates in February of this year.  Heartfelt thanks to all the staff for the care and kindness she received.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate Anna’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
