Obituary of Dallas Hardi Umanetz

Dallas Hardi Kubassek Umanetz was born on February 5, 2000, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was raised from the age of 7 years old by his adoptive parents, Violet and Coffee Umanetz, and lived his life in Kitchener, Ontario.  He died by suicide on May 1, 2026, at the age of 26.

While we struggle to find our way through this loss, we know that Dallas would have had some good jokes to tell us - no one’s ‘dad joke’ collection or dark humour could possibly surpass his. He was never without a quick one-liner, quietly stated, to make everyone laugh. We can only imagine what he’d be whispering to us right now if he could.

Everyone who met Dallas described him as “the sweetest” and “so kind”. He had a gentle soul. He gave the world’s best hugs. He was quick to volunteer, to help, and to listen and support the people around him. If you needed your car fixed, dog watched, boxes moved, or art created, he was the person to call. If Dallas didn’t know how to do something, he’d show up anyway to help you figure it out. If you wanted the shirt off of his back he would gladly hand it over.

Dallas loved playing Dark Souls, eating trail mix with milk chocolate, working on his treasured lifted truck, hanging out with his friends, being outdoors, camping and fishing, listening to every genre of music, befriending any animal that crossed his path. He was always up for any adventure he could find.

In his late teens and early adult years, Dallas was building the life of his dreams. He was also beginning to struggle with his mental health and, subsequently, with addiction. In turn, he lost so many of the things and relationships that brought him joy. It was hard for him to imagine a way out of those losses.

We know that Dallas held onto hope for as long as he could.  We know he fought hard to stay. None of us were ready to say goodbye.

Dallas is survived by his brothers Mason, Quinton, and Shaquille, his adoptive parents and their families, his biological parents and grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and a very, very long list of friends who adored him. We were all so lucky to know Dallas, to love and be loved by him, and we will treasure the good memories of him forever.
