Obituary of Doris Parkinson

April 17, 1927 – December 7, 2025

Doris Parkinson passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, age 98, at Lanark Village in Kitchener.

She is survived by her daughter Lorna of Winnipeg, MB, her grandchildren Erin and Conor, and great-granddaughter Mckenna from Ontario.

Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur Parkinson (2010), her daughter Gwynne O’Shaughnessy (2018), her parents Leonard and Edith Bacher, and brothers Harvey and Cliff Bacher.

Doris grew up in the Kitchener Waterloo area and trained at KW Hospital as a nurse. After her marriage, she lived in a number of communities in Ontario. Art and Doris raised their two daughters in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), where Doris worked as a psychiatric nurse. When Art retired, they moved to Newmarket where Doris continued to work as a Head Nurse in the Psychiatric ward at the local Hospital.  When Doris retired, they eventually moved back to Waterloo where they both enjoyed many years until Art contracted a long illness in which Doris tenderly cared for him.  Doris was part of St. Mathew’s Lutheran Church well into her nineties. Doris enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her family and neighbours. She treasured close relationships with her two daughters and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up.

Special thanks to the friends and staff at both Lanark Village and Waterloo Heights who made her last years happy and comfortable. The family also wishes to thank Daryl Similas for his kind support and friendship with Art and Doris for many years.
